DONATIONS + FACILITY USE

MIT is dedicated to sharing its resources by assisting nonprofits in the support of their mission and activities through donations, grants from the MIT Community Service Fund, and the use of Institute facilities space for meetings and events.

Donations

The Office makes donations to programs and organizations that are integral to the well-being of the community at large. As a nonprofit itself, MIT's resources and endowment are directed towards its principal mission of teaching and research that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century. However, the Institute stands to support other nonprofits, and can sometimes provide a modest donation. Most of the funds budgeted for this purpose are used to support organizations in Cambridge with which the Institute has a strong connection. MIT cannot make contributions to political campaigns.

If you would like to inquire about receiving financial sponsorship for your organization or event, please send a written request to the office (by email, mail, or fax) that includes:
  • Information about your organization (including the location of its headquarters)
  • What the funds you request would be used for or the nature of your event
  • Your contact information (including a mailing address).
If the Office is able to make a contribution, a staff member will contact you.

MIT Community Service Fund

The MIT Community Service Fund was established in 1968 to support the efforts of MIT volunteers and partners in the community by providing grants to local service projects. It is the Office's primary vehicle for financial contributions to local nonprofit organizations. Information about applying for a CSF grant is available here.

Facility Use

The Office is sometimes able to serve as a sponsor for some groups wishing to hold events on the MIT campus, providing a place to congregate, meet, and celebrate. The Office considers requests primarily from government groups and Cambridge-based nonprofit agencies with which MIT has a relationship.

If you would like to inquire about facility use for your organization or event, please send a written request to the office (by email, mail, or fax) that includes:
  • Information about your organization (including the location of its headquarters)
  • The nature of your event, possible dates of the event, and how many people would attend
  • Your contact information (including a mailing address).
If the Office is able to offer facility use for your event, a staff member will contact you.
